Environmental
Barrier offers a wide variety of Environmental Services in
the form of
Site Assessment,
Consultation,
Construction,
Remediation and Representation.
We will stand with our customer, at no charge, when environmental agencies respond to an emergency. We will help our customers become knowledgeable in how to deal most economically with
the choices that may be taken. More important, we will help the customer avoid costly cleanup problems by developing a clear recognition of the facility's needs.

Site Assessment
Barrier can provide both Stage I and Stage II Site Assessments. Stage I,
generally required by lending institutions, is a fact finding survey. The
document will reflect the registration status and age of underground storage
tanks, and compliance with Federal, State and Local laws. It will also detail any
spill from the surrounding area that may have impacted the site and potential
environmental problems.
A Stage II site assessment will be more encompassing. In addition to
containing all of the information in a Stage I report, groundwater and soil data
will be developed from soil borings on-site. Remediation plans will be
included if required.

Consultation
Barrier provides most consultations FREE of charge. Consultations can
include telephone discussion, document review and site visits, often with
different members of the Barrier team. Most visits start with our marketing
department. When a general need is defined, our engineer, construction
manager or service manager may need to visit the site and review the issues
with the property owner, operator and Barrier management.
Our objective is to define the issue and arrive at a viable solution. The
customer does not start to invest money, until we are at either the corrective
action or upgrading stage.

Construction
When Stage I Vapor Recovery became mandatory, Barrier made a decision to
undertake this responsibility for its customers. Soon came the Stage II Vapor
Recovery mandates. More recently, the 1998 Federal Underground Storage
Tank Regulations have gone into effect. These laws regulate corrosion
protection, leak detection, spill protection and overfill prevention. Although
these requirements phase in gradually over a period of more than 10 years,
we have made great efforts to bring our company-owned tanks, as well as
those of our customers, into full compliance well ahead of schedule.
We, at Barrier, understand the need to complete your job once it is started. We
will provide the experienced manpower to get you back in business quickly.

Remediation and Representation
Barrier will work with you, the customer, and the applicable environmental
oversight agency to develop a plan to stop and remediate any contamination
problem. We have a great deal of experience in the design and building of
NYSDEC-approved ground water treatment systems for our customers.
We, at Barrier have developed passive as well as active remediation systems.
We have moved thousands of tons of contaminated soil and tens of
thousands of gallons of contaminated water. We even have our own portable
water treatment system which is housed in a 40 foot trailer. With this system,
we are able to pump and treat contaminated groundwater from an excavation
directly into catch basins with environmental agency approval. The
techniques we employ can save you thousands of dollars if you happen to be
faced with such a situation.
Barrier is familiar with the various agencies that can become involved in an
environmental problem, from the local building department to the Coast
Guard. We have the experience and the capacity to communicate with each
agency on an appropriate level. We will also handle communication with both
the press and the public.
